This piece is a physical representation of an abstract landscape. I made two scale graphs—one showing the level, in weight, of the US Gold Reserve from 1900 to 2006, the other showing the percent of inflation each year during that same span. Constructed with white plum line cord, the graphs are pulled tight with transparent monofiliment. I then connected the two graphs by tieing pink strings between the data two data points for each year. While mathematically this figure is somewhat nonsensical—the units of each graph are incompatible—it acheives its goal of becoming a landscape, an inhabitable space, where a different kind of exploration and understanding can occur.
